"We are greatly rejoicing over such high achievements of the team in the very first round of the Le Mans Series. Although the pilots started off from the ninth position won in the qualifying race, the team managed to move forward during the race and climb up a few steps in the final point-count. The fifth place is a valuable accomplishment, therefore we hope to get on the victory podium in other rounds," Žoržas Šarafanovičius, the Director of Bankas SNORAS Business Development Division, stated.
Two Spyker C8 Laviolette GT2R cars of SNORAS Spyker Squadron began 1000 km Catalunya Rally in Barcelona. The pilots Alexey Vasiliev (Russia), Ralf Kelleners (Germany) and Peter Dumbreck (Great Britain) were compete in car number 85 which won the fifth position. During almost the entire six-hour race, the crew was running in the fifth position, except several times when due to obligatory pitstops it returned to the trek in seventh position.
"The final result of our crew is better than we could wish for. After the race, we returned the car almost undamaged, although a driver of Porsche hit it. After the collision it was just a case of keep consistent and make sure we successfully got to the end. The presently achieved result is a good base point for future victories," the crew's pilots that won the fifth place said after the competition.
The second car of SNORAS Spyker Squadron, number 94, which was to be piloted by the Swiss racers Andrea Chiesa and Benjamin Leuenberger, failed to finish the race due to technical problems.
The first place in GT2 class on Barcelona track was won by Virgo Motorsport crew who drove in Ferrari 430 GT number 96.
The next round of the Le Mans Series will be held at Monza track, Italy, on April 27.
