Documentary collection is a form of documentary settlements which is slightly cheaper than the credit. In this case, upon the seller's request the bank sends the documents of payment and (or) of commercial products to the purchaser's bank and authorizes the latter to transfer the documents to the purchaser only after the products are paid for or upon receipt of agreement about paying for them after a certain period of time (upon acceptance of a bill of exchange). This form of settlements is especially convenient when goods are delivered by cargo ship because the recipient of the goods (purchaser) will not be able to reclaim the goods without the sea consignment note, which is sent according to the documentary collection..
